Frequently asked questions

Why does BrainBodyBalance use sound and neurodevelopmental movement?

BrainBodyBalance (BBB) is all about holistic care. The therapies used by BBB are neurosomatic, which references the brain and body together. The senses, nervous system and body are in constant communication about our emotional and physical safety. Filtered music used in our sound therapy uses the sensory system to signal safety to the body and brain. Innate movements are recognized by the brain, signaling safety by soothing the brainstem, and building the brain circuitry to promote optimal development and healing.

How can neurodeveopmental movement and reflex integration help me or my child?

Neurodevelopmental movement can soothe the brainstem, relieve tension and pain, and gently begin working on reflex integration. This helps strengthen neural pathways, create fluid movement patterns and body responses, leading to enhanced physical and emotional well-being. Reflex integration can also improve coordination, school performance and behavior.

What is sound therapy or therapeutic listening?

BrainBodyBalance uses two therapeutic listening programs - the Rest and Restore Protocol and the Safe and Sound Protocol, both developed by Dr. Stephen Porges. They target the nervous system through sound frequencies in the ear. More information about these programs can be found here:

Why choose personalized support?

Personalized support is developed through collaborative assessment and planning, tailored to your specific needs. Our schedule for appointments, phone calls and email communication is flexible and based on what suits you best to be accountable and achieve to your goals.

How are these methods different from other therapies?

Neurodevelopmental movement, reflex integration and therapeutic listening are holistic and they leverage capacities that our wise body already holds. These methods that deliver results without invasive treatment, such as medication or sharing traumatic material. They also build capacity in the nervous system, increase distress tolerance and decrease effort in everyday tasks.

BrainBodyBalance

Individuals and families are disconnected from mind, body and spirit, and we are paying the price with our physical and mental health. Methods used by BrainBodyBalance bring greater internal alignment and safety, activating the body's innate ability to heal and increasing one's capacity to grow and change. Choosing to heal and change is an extraordinary step and a commitment to reaching for more for yourself and your family.

BrainBodyBalance recognizes a rapidly growing need for mental health and wellness services, given the rising rates of anxiety, depression, chronic health issues, chronic pain and neurodevelopmental challenges. Additionally, a shortage of mental health therapists, especially those equipped to serve children and families, continues to make it difficult to get support quickly. It is our mission to fill this gap in care with creative, accessible solutions for both individual adults, children and families.

Standard talk therapy is helpful, however it is limited and does not resolve underlying nervous system patterns driving emotions and behavior. BrainBodyBalance believes in targeting the root cause of dysregulation - the neuro-sensory-motor systems - by alchemizing the healing power of sound and movement. Both act as direct portals to the brain and nervous system, promoting a felt sense of safety, enhancing functioning and optimizing performance.

“This is such an intuitive and low-lift way to support my child’s (and my) nervous system. Talking is important but without a foundation of feeling okay it’s not always so effective. This is a really lovely way to get them to that baseline sense of feeling safe. We did it together and it was also really sweet and bonding.”
